La Petite France

In the heart of Strasbourg, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the La Petite France district embodies the city's historic soul. This iconic area, the most picturesque part of old Strasbourg, owes its charm to its artisanal and riverine past. Once home to fishermen, millers, and tanners who lived and worked in waterside buildings, the half-timbered houses from the 16th and 17th centuries bear witness to this era: their steep roofs open onto attics where hides were once dried, reflecting the tanners' trade. Destroyed during World War II, the district was meticulously rebuilt afterward, preserving its authenticity and history for future generations.
