La Vancelle
Perched at about 430 meters altitude, La Vancelle is a charming mountain village nestled in the heart of the Vosges massif, about twelve kilometers from Sélestat. Ideal for nature lovers, it serves as a starting base for many walks, such as the Heyrisheck Circuit or the Hintereck Circuit, as well as more demanding hikes for experienced walkers.
Nearby, the Chalmont, the highest peak at 702 meters, is about a 45-minute walk from the village. This rocky promontory, surrounded by legends, marks the start of a hiking trail leading to remarkable sites like the Rocher du Coucou or rock formations with evocative shapes: the Fallen Horse, the Salt Shaker, and the Fairy Rock. At the summit, a natural viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and the Haut-Koenigsbourg massif.
History enthusiasts can explore the Frankenbourg castle, built in the Middle Ages and reorganized during the Renaissance. Guided tours also allow visitors to discover archaeological excavations conducted on site.
To extend your stay, La Vancelle offers various accommodations: cottages, group lodgings, or hotels. After a day of effort, two local restaurants welcome you to dine and fully enjoy the village atmosphere.
