Landsberg Castle
Built between 1197 and 1200 by Conrad de Landsberg, this medieval castle was intended to strengthen the abbeys of Hohenbourg, Niedermunster, and Andlau, while providing a refuge in case of danger for the castle of Niedernai.
Its architecture shows a certain refinement: the twin Romanesque windows of the palace and the oriel of the castle chapel add remarkable elegance to the entire site.
Unfortunately, this fortress did not withstand the Swedish assaults in 1632, which caused its destruction.
Today, the remains of this castle invite visitors to a tour full of history and charm.
To reach it on foot, visitors have two options: from Heiligenstein, take the Main Street, then Bear Street and Landsberg Street before following a trail marked with a blue triangle, for a walk of about 45 minutes. From Barr, it is possible to follow the GR5 trail, starting above the Protestant church, also about 45 minutes. By car, from Barr, take the D854 towards Mont Sainte-Odile, then turn right towards Saint-Nabor via the D109. Park on the roadside and finish the journey on foot in 20 minutes.
