Large-leaved Linden

The legend of the Schoenenbourg Linden Tree tells that it was planted over a thousand years ago when the lord of Schoenenbourg left for the Crusades.

A poetic version of this story speaks of a young woman whose tears, shed in memory of her absent husband, nourished the tree and helped it grow. Despite his never returning, she continued to weep, giving the linden all its vitality.

However, scientific estimates place its age between 350 and 500 years, a calculation complicated by the rapid growth of lindens and their exceptional ability to regenerate.

It is even possible that this tree replaced an older specimen. Today, the Schoenenbourg Linden is nationally recognized and labeled for its historical and symbolic importance.
