Le Geiersberg Viewpoint
Le Geiersberg refers to the summit of a hill overlooking the village of Dauendorf. Perched at 261 meters above sea level, this strategic viewpoint is located along departmental road 110, connecting Dauendorf to Pfaffenhoffen. From this promontory, the view spans a vast panorama of Northern Alsace: the Hanau region, the Northern Vosges, the Haguenau forest, and the Outre-forest.
On clear days, it is even possible to see the Black Forest massif in Germany, about 50 kilometers away.
A resting bench made of Vosges sandstone, nicknamed the "Napoleonic bench," was installed here in 1854. Classified as a Historic Monument since 1988, it pays tribute to Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III, renowned for her beauty. This bench is flanked by two linden trees likely contemporary, over 150 years old, in front of which stands an orientation table inaugurated in 1995. An equally old and still productive pear tree once completed this landscape before being cut down in 2012.
