Le Markstein

Perched between 1020 and 1268 meters altitude, Le Markstein stretches across the Vosges massif, in the heart of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Natural Park, along the famous Route des Crêtes. This exceptional site, where forests, mountain pastures, and breathtaking panoramas blend, hosts remarkable biodiversity. Deer, roe deer, chamois, and birds of prey like the common buzzard roam freely, while protected plants such as arnica, blueberries, gentian, and orchids dot the landscapes. Since the early 20th century, Le Markstein has been a major sports venue, hosting Nordic skiing and ski jumping competitions from its inception. Today, it remains a favored playground for outdoor enthusiasts, summer and winter alike. Activities abound: summer sledding, mini-golf, archery, hiking on the GR5 trail, mountain biking, cyclo-cross, paragliding, as well as alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. The resort also offers varied accommodations, restaurants, and farm inns to extend your stay. Accessible to motorcyclists thanks to its location on the Route des Crêtes, the site especially attracts two-wheel enthusiasts whenever weather permits, generally from April to November.
