Lichtenberg Castle

Perched on its rocky spur, Lichtenberg Castle embodies a place of memory where past and future intersect. Founded in the 13th century, this historic site has endured through the centuries, accumulating layers of its eventful history. Today, after a bold restoration, it stands as a symbol of this evolution, elegantly blending traditional materials—sandstone, wood, copper—with reversible contemporary fittings. These architectural choices, both respectful and innovative, allow for new functions while preserving the possibility of restoring the site to its former state for future generations. Now a must-visit location, it is dedicated to historical discovery, exhibitions, meetings, artistic experimentation, and performances. It now houses the Heritage Interpretation Center, focused on the theme of Heritage and Artistic Creation. The permanent exhibition "Lichtenberg Castle, a perpetual construction site," inaugurated in 2023, invites visitors to dive into the castle's architectural history through the ages. Over 800 years of evolution are explored through interactive and playful modules, allowing visitors of all ages to immerse themselves in the role of architect, discover construction techniques from different eras, and understand the behind-the-scenes of contemporary rehabilitation. Freely accessible during opening hours, the site offers a rich visit route with installations: exhibition spaces, hands-on games, and explanatory panels reveal the secrets of this emblematic monument.
