Linge Memorial Museum
The Linge is one of the most significant sites of the Battle of the High Vosges, which pitted French and German forces against each other in 1915.
Nearly 20,000 soldiers of all nationalities lost their lives, were wounded, or went missing there.
Today, the battlefield remains accessible and preserves well-maintained remnants of the German defensive system, poignant testimonies of this dark period in history.
Three trails, suited to different levels of difficulty, wind through the still-visible trenches. Each stop is accompanied by explanatory panels available in three languages, offering visitors a clear understanding of the events that took place there.
A museum complements the experience by displaying a collection of objects found on site. It immerses visitors in the daily life of the soldiers, allowing them to imagine life in this combat zone. A twenty-minute video also recounts the historical context of the Battle of the Linge, providing essential insight into the stakes of the time.
To extend the visit, visitors can enjoy the surrounding mountain landscapes or stop at a farm-inn. In summer, guided tours and night visits are offered, adding an immersive dimension to the discovery of this historically rich site.
