Lingolsheim Swimming Pool
With its flying saucer shape, the Tournesol swimming pool in Lingolsheim delights both young and old throughout the year.
Built in the 1980s as part of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Leisure's "1,000 pools" program, it is one of four designed models, with the Tournesol being the most iconic due to its original shape. Its name comes from its polyester tile dome that opens at the first rays of the sun, revealing a futuristic structure made up of 36 metal arches, 12 of which are retractable.
These arches, each pierced with 7 portholes, allow the pool to be uncovered at a 120° angle in summer, while the roof height reaches 6 meters. The 2014 renovation by Urbane Kultur architects preserved its unique character. On site, visitors enjoy a sports pool, a leisure pool, a paddling pool, outdoor areas with a solarium and water play area, as well as vending machines for drinks and swimming equipment.
This architectural gem has been awarded the Remarkable Contemporary Architecture label by the Ministry of Culture.
