Locks and Hydroelectric Power Station at Marckolsheim

Marckolsheim has had an electricity supply since 1911, initially through a coal-fired power plant located near the Rhône-Rhine Canal. Since 1962, this role has been fulfilled by the hydroelectric power station installed on the Grand Canal of Alsace, which produces an average of 928 million kWh per year. The construction of this power station, along with two locks and a dam on the Rhine, has significantly altered the local landscape.

The power station is not open to visitors. However, a freely accessible observation walkway allows visitors to admire boats passing through the locks.

Additionally, a fish pass is currently under construction.
