Medieval Garden of the Sainte-Marguerite Chapel

The Romanesque Sainte-Marguerite chapel, dating from the 11th century, is notable for its fully vaulted cruciform plan. It features a unique gallery-porch connecting the west and south entrances, opening onto the cemetery through a series of arcades. The surrounding enclosure appears to have served as a burial site since its construction. Since 2002, the Friends of the Chapel have created a medieval garden on its northern side. This small space, inspired by monastic gardens, houses aromatic, medicinal, vegetable, and ornamental plants, including old roses, arranged in squares and triangles bordered by woven branches and boxwood. At the garden's center, a pink sandstone fountain gently flows with peaceful water. The winding paths invite leisurely strolls, while rustic wooden benches surrounded by tall grasses and pansies provide a setting ideal for contemplation.
