Medieval Gates and Walls of Bœrsch

Around 1340, the town was surrounded by ramparts pierced by four gates. Today, three of them remain. To the east stands the Lower Gate, called Niedertor. To the south, the Upper Gate, or Obertor, is distinguished by a depiction of Saint Médard, the parish's patron. To the north, the Rear Gate, Aftertor, completes this preserved trio. The fourth gate, located to the west and named the Presbytery Gate, was demolished in 1758 due to its dilapidated condition.

These remains, along with the remarkably well-preserved ramparts, still encircle the historic heart of the town.
