Meeting Point: Sarkis's Dream

In 1993, Sélestat hosted the first public art commission in France, designed by the artist Sarkis. At the time, the town had 309 streets, which determined the number of blue enamel plaques installed on a wall. A few additional plaques were added to anticipate the future expansion of the urban network. Each plaque bears fragments of texts, excerpts from poems, or chosen words meant to awaken the imagination of passersby.

Opposite this installation, blank plaques and two red neon wings overlook the Ill river. Their reflections in the water add an extra dimension, inviting viewers to dive into a dreamlike world.
