Memorial Monument of the 1st Artillery Regiment of Hesse

Erected in 1913 based on the plans of Strasbourg architect Ernst Zimmerle, this commemorative monument celebrates the battle of August 6, 1870. It pays tribute to the 1st Infantry Regiment of Hesse, whose memory is preserved by this imposing structure.

Octagonal in shape, the monument rises over two levels and ends with an accessible upper terrace. Each side of the building features an arcade on the lower level and three lancet windows on the upper level, framed by bronze mullions resembling cannon barrels.

Inside, a spiral staircase housed in a polygonal shaft connects the floors. Below the upper windows, heraldic shields add a heraldic touch to the whole.
