Memorial Square
Battle Street commemorates a significant episode of the First World War.
On August 19, 1914, French forces launched an offensive that allowed them to retake Mulhouse for the second time since the conflict began on August 3. This victory, though temporary, marked a symbolic moment in the struggle for the Alsatian city. However, the recapture lasted only a few days, as the troops soon had to retreat, leaving Mulhouse once again under German control.
