Menchhoffen
Menchhoffen is an Alsatian village located in the Pays de Hanau, on the banks of the Moder River, downstream from Ingwiller. It is built on the heights on both sides of the river, whose marshy valley long influenced its settlement. Its church overlooks the village at an altitude of 193 meters. The commune covers 426 hectares on both sides of the Moder, including a 71-hectare communal forest. The landscape is marked by meadows, cultivated hills, orchards, groves, and forests, offering a picturesque entrance to the Northern Vosges Regional Park, whose peaks shape the horizon. The traditional nicknames of the inhabitants, "Latze" or "Bürelatze," recall their agricultural past, linked to the bib overalls worn by farmers. Until the mid-20th century, the village changed little, then developed along departmental road 919 up to the border with Ingwiller. This proximity allows the people of Menchhoffen to benefit from the shops and services of the neighboring town. Located equidistant from Haguenau and Saverne, and served by train since 1895 (Strasbourg-Sarreguemines line), Menchhoffen has seen its population grow. The "Les Vignes" housing estate has allowed its gradual expansion, slowly transforming the village into a residential community. Despite this evolution, Menchhoffen maintains a rich and varied community life, strengthening ties among its inhabitants.
