Mobile Dam

Located on the right bank of the Rhine, this mobile dam plays a key role in flood management. Equipped with six 20-meter-wide gates, each fitted with a segment gate and a spillway flap, it can discharge a maximum flow of 7,200 cubic meters per second.

The Hydraulic Control Center (CCH) in Kembs, located over 100 kilometers away, remotely controls the Rhine's flow for both the hydroelectric plant and the dam. This management allows for gradual or sudden opening of the gates as needed. In case of flooding, the gates open progressively, causing the Rhine's level downstream to rise.

Islands and peninsulas, as well as boats in the area, may become submerged, posing a danger to people present there.
