Motte-and-Bailey Castle

The Schoenau motte-and-bailey castle still stands today as an impressive testament to the medieval past.

Surrounded by a ditch once filled with water, this earthen mound reaches about ten meters in height with a diameter of 50 meters at its base.

At its summit stood one of the earliest medieval lowland castles, built of earth and wood.

Excavations have uncovered numerous pottery and ceramic shards, confirming the site's age and historical significance.
