Muttersholtz

Muttersholtz, honored as the French biodiversity capital in 2017 and 2025, and recognized as a positive energy territory, is one of the emblematic communes of the Alsatian Ried.

Its architectural heritage is marked by two churches: the older Protestant church, once dedicated to Saint Urban. After the Reformation, a Simultaneum was established there in 1684, allowing Protestants to use the nave and Catholics the choir until 1891, the year the new Saint Urban church was built. Stroll through the village center to admire farms and houses typical of the Alsatian style, then head to the Ill river dikes to enjoy an exceptional panorama of the Ried plain and bucolic walks. The commune offers a wide variety of routes suitable for all, from 2 to 9 km, to explore its preserved environment, whether on foot or by bike. In Ehnwihr, a hamlet of Muttersholtz, the Nature House of the Ried and Central Alsace invites visitors to discover local natural habitats through educational activities. The barefoot trail SensoRied offers a playful and unusual sensory experience. Ehnwihr is also known for its Ried boatman, who builds his own boats and offers rides on the Ill, allowing immersion in the history of the boatmen, local fauna, and flora.
