Nature House of the Old Canal

The Nature House, located in the Hardt plain at Hirtzfelden, on the banks of the Rhône-Rhine Canal, welcomes all visitors to discover natural areas and raise awareness about their preservation. Through birdwatching, exploring floodplain forests and wetlands, it invites a better understanding and protection of these fragile ecosystems.

A discovery trail, "the old canal trail," allows visitors to encounter the hidden riches of nature. This 1.7 km route, accessible in 1 to 1.5 hours, runs along the banks of the Rhône-Rhine Canal, where navigation has ceased. It features information about local history, wildlife, and flora, offering a full immersion in this natural setting.

The trail notably includes the observation footbridge, an architecturally remarkable structure. This bridge incorporates habitats for biodiversity, such as birdhouses and insect hotels, and offers a unique view overlooking the old canal.
