Notre-Dame Chapel

At the place called Alte Kapelle, a very old chapel was destroyed by wars. A pietà, the sole survivor, was transported on a cart pulled by oxen. When they stopped, it was decided to build a new chapel dedicated to Our Lady in 1771. Inside, the Sorrowful Virgin, a polychrome linden wood sculpture from the 18th century, continues to be venerated today. The ceiling is adorned with twelve musician angels, while at the foot of the altar are four painted metal reliquaries. These contain relics of Saint Teresa of Avila, Saint Francis, Saint Florent, and Saint Bartholomew (replaced in 1873 by that of Saint Philip Neri). These relics, acquired in Rome between 1755 and 1785, were offered to the parish in 1818 by the Bishopric of Strasbourg. Next to the altar lies a sandstone recumbent statue representing the dead Christ, discovered in 1969 and poorly restored until 1997. This statue, part of a Holy Sepulchre dating from around 1500, is listed as a Historic Monument.
