Notre-Dame Church

The Notre-Dame Church in Guebwiller was built between 1764 and 1785 in the lower town, following the secularization of the chapter and its transfer from Murbach.

The initial plan was entrusted to the architect from Besançon, Beuque, but it was Gabriel Ignace Ritter who carried out most of the main construction as well as the remarkable neoclassical decoration, considered one of the finest in Alsace.

Around the central square is the canons' quarter, made up of five houses intended for the canons.

Nearby stands the Neuenbourg Castle, now transformed into a cultural and tourist hub hosting, among others, the Guebwiller Region Tourist Office, the Architecture and Heritage Interpretation Center, and the European Institute of Ceramic Arts.
