Notre-Dame Church

Perched on a glacial ridge, the Notre-Dame Church of Sewen rises at the center of a fortified cemetery. Its square choir, in Gothic style, is topped by a bell tower dating from the 13th century. The choir opens onto a rectangular nave with an unvaulted wooden ceiling, enlarged in the 19th century. Inside the cemetery is a 15th-century ossuary, a witness to the site's medieval past.

Sewen was an important pilgrimage site, especially at the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century. After a decline marked by the Thirty Years' War, the site experienced a revival in the 18th century. The pilgrimage regained new vitality thanks to the efforts of Father Baumuller, who served the parish from 1859 to 1879 and helped renew the church's furnishings.

This church is now part of the "In the Footsteps of Mary" Churches and Chapels Circuit.
