Notre-Dame du Schauenberg Chapel
Nestled between the villages of Pfaffenheim and Gueberschwihr, this 15th-century chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was built on the remains of a hermitage, following a vow fulfilled by a princess healed through the prayers of a hermit. Since 1483, it has attracted pilgrims and visitors, especially for the panoramic view it offers of the Alsace plain from its terrace. Nuns from the Saint-Marc convent in Gueberschwihr are present there.
Access is easy by car via a small forest road. Parking is available 300 meters from the sanctuary, while another, reserved for people with reduced mobility, is located near the chapel. On foot, it is possible to reach the site from Pfaffenheim by crossing the vineyards along a Way of the Cross marked by the Club Vosgien (blue crosses). The round trip takes about two hours.
