Notre-Dame du Schiebenberg Statue

Perched above the picturesque village of Dinsheim-sur-Bruche, the site of the Notre-Dame du Schiebenberg statue overlooks the Bruche valley about twenty kilometers from Strasbourg. This iconic place features a gilded cast-iron statue of the Virgin and Child, installed on a stone pedestal at 317 meters altitude.

It was erected on July 18, 1875, a holy year, as a sign of gratitude after the mayor, priest, and sacristan were arrested by the Prussians, wrongly accused of colluding with the enemy.

In reality, the ringing of the Angelus coincided with an attack by sharpshooters at Mutzig, mistakenly interpreted as a signal by the Prussian command. Later freed, the locals wished to express their thanks to Christ by erecting this statue.

To reach this historic site and enjoy its exceptional panorama, plan about two hours of walking round trip from the village center.
