Notre-Dame of the Seven Sorrows Chapel (Heilighiesel)
Located in Mutzig, on the Alsace Wine Route, about twenty kilometers west of Strasbourg, the Heilighiesel chapel stands on a hillside.
Built around 1780, it features a distinctive Baroque gable.
Its origin is linked to a healing story: a paralytic Lutheran, who regained the use of his legs after a pilgrimage, is said to have funded its construction in gratitude. Originally, a niche housed a statue of the Sorrowful Virgin on the Hermolsheim site.
Today, the chapel can be seen from an entryway and is accessible by passing under the RN 420, then climbing the stairs leading to a small platform shaded by chestnut trees.
