Old Castle
Built in the 12th century, this castle played a significant role for two and a half centuries. During each imperial visit, it housed the most precious treasures: the crown jewels and the relics of the Passion of Christ. In the 17th century, the engineer Vauban dismantled it to build the Fort-Louis citadel. The Jesuits then took over the site to establish a college. After their expulsion in 1765, the town stationed soldiers there, first in private homes, then in the college buildings converted into a cavalry barracks. This military use lasted until the end of World War II. In 1961, the Civil Hospices of the city, located nearby, purchased the site to turn it into a retirement home, where it still serves today.
