Old Synagogue

Built in 1867 from sandstone by architect Antoine Ringeisen, this synagogue reflects the Jewish history of Mackenheim. At the time of its construction, the community numbered around 130 people.

However, its membership rapidly declined after World War II, dropping from 56 members in 1936 to only 4 in 1953.

In the 1970s, the building was repurposed and became a library as well as a Youth and Cultural Center (MJC), marking a new chapter in its history.
