Old Washhouse

In the 19th century, many villages and towns in Alsace saw the construction of washhouses along waterways. These structures, intended to power mills along their course, are a testament to a rural and artisanal heritage still visible today. Some of these washhouses have disappeared over time, while others have been carefully restored to preserve their memory.

This is the case with the Ensisheim washhouse, located on the banks of the Quatelbach. This carefully restored site offers a glimpse into the architecture and uses of the time.

It also serves as an ideal starting point for a picturesque walk along the old city walls, inviting visitors to discover another facet of local history.
