Orbey
Dive into the heart of the Welche country in Orbey, a medieval village with a thousand years of history. Founded in the 11th century under the name Orbeiz, it was initially under the authority of the Hohnack castle and then the Pairis abbey.
Nestled in a lush valley of the Vosges, between the Black and White lakes and the great mountain ridge, Orbey offers a preserved natural setting where forests, meadows, and grand panoramas blend. Numerous hiking trails allow exploration of these landscapes, with routes suitable for all levels, available at the local tourist office as guides and detailed maps.
The village is also marked by the history of the First World War, notably during the Battle of Linge in 1915. The Linge Memorial, open from April to November 11, allows visitors to discover the trenches and pay tribute to the French and German soldiers who fought on this front.
For leisure enthusiasts, Orbey offers a wide variety of activities: adventure park, barefoot trail, paintball, mountain biking, four-season rail sledding, orienteering courses, and puzzle trails for children. Thrill-seekers can try the Bike Park. In winter, the town transforms into a white paradise with alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing.
Finally, food lovers can enjoy authentic mountain cuisine in farm inns, where the famous marcaire meal, simple and tasty, highlights the culinary traditions of the Vosges Massif. Between lakes, forests, and mountains, Orbey captivates with breathtaking landscapes and authenticity.
