Osenbach

Osenbach is a small village located at the bottom of the Vallée Noble, surrounded by a preserved natural environment.

It boasts a magnificent view of the Petit and Grand Ballon in the Vosges foothills, where fir forests dominate the landscape.

This setting makes it a popular destination for eco-tourism and nature walks.

The village occupies the northern part of the Wintzfelden collapse basin, offering generous sunlight and exceptional panoramas thanks to its unique geological structure.

The local flora, protected by a prefectural decree, reflects the diversity of soils shaped by human history through farming, forests, and former mining activities.

Its name comes from the stream that originates there.

Historically, Osenbach was known for its silver and copper mines, exploited between 1498 and 1850 by the Bishop of Strasbourg, who held the rights.

The village was part of the Upper Mundat, given by Dagobert to Saint Arbogast, Bishop of Strasbourg, in 675.

A local noble family bore the village's name and featured an ox head on their coat of arms.
