Pairis Abbey

Pairis Abbey, founded in 1138 by Count Ulrich of Ferette, is a gem of Cistercian architecture. It played a key role in spreading the Cîteaux order, and its monks took part in the Crusade of Constantinople. Since 1328, the abbey has owned vineyards once known as Zum Kefersberg, now renamed Kaefferkopf, contributing to its local fame. Damaged by a fire of unknown origin, it suffered many degradations over the centuries. In the 19th century, the remains of its porch and enclosing wall were reused to build a hospice and hospital, still visible today.
