Petersbach
The oldest relic of Petersbach is its church, which became a simultaneous church in 1747. Its architecture, blending Gothic and Romanesque elements, suggests a construction dating back to the 12th or 13th centuries. According to ancient archives, the area around the village once housed a now-lost hamlet as well as a Roman castrum, the location of which remains unknown to this day.
The village itself has a turbulent history: it was bought by the Count of Lützelstein in 1586, then repopulated by Huguenots after the Thirty Years' War. The coat of arms of Petersbach, depicting a raven with outstretched wings, is directly derived from that of the Helmstatt family, glassmakers settled in the region before 1600.
