Place Broglie

Place Broglie, located in Strasbourg, was formerly known as the Horse Market Square.

It is here that a major historical event took place in 1792: La Marseillaise was performed publicly for the first time in front of the City Hall.

This song, which became the French national anthem, was composed just days earlier, on the night of April 25-26, 1792, by Rouget de L’Isle, who was then stationed in Strasbourg.

This symbolic moment has left a lasting mark on the history of the square and the city.
