Poêle des Laboureurs
The current building results from the 1626 reconstruction of a structure previously occupied by the powerful Corporation of Labourers.
This group, which played a central role in overseeing the population of Colmar, rebuilt their meeting place in the late Renaissance architectural style. Characteristic decorative elements, such as the door frame, mullions, and molded window lintels, illustrate this period with a complete ornamental repertoire. After the French Revolution, the building was used as a place of worship by the Jewish community of Colmar. They held their services there until 1842, when they acquired a new synagogue built on Rue de la Cigogne.
