Pond - Nature Reserve

Filled in 1982, the Reichshoffen pond was designated a Voluntary Nature Reserve about ten years later, thanks to the diversity of its aquatic wildlife.

In 2014, it received the Regional Nature Reserve label. This structure plays a crucial role in public safety by regulating the flow of the Schwarzbach River and reducing flood risks in the old town.

Covering nearly 16 hectares, it is now a popular spot for walks, featuring a 2.4 km hiking trail and a fitness course.

Only fishing is allowed in the front part of the pond; all other activities such as hunting, swimming, boating, or camping are strictly prohibited.

Nearby, several sites are worth visiting: the Wohlfahrtshoffen chapel, the well of a thousand babies, the Eselsbreckel footbridge, the botanical trail, the sports course, and the ruins of the Rauchenwasser forge. A birdwatching observatory is also accessible to wildlife and flora enthusiasts.
