Porte de Bâle Heating Plant

This chimney does not belong to a factory but to the urban heating plant located in the Porte de Bâle district.

This area, severely damaged by the 1944 bombings, was completely rebuilt from the 1950s by renowned architects. Their work gave the neighborhood a strong architectural coherence.

Among the emblematic constructions of this era are the screen building built on stilts, inspired by Le Corbusier, as well as the EDF building and the heating plant, both designed by architect Daniel Girardet. These buildings perfectly illustrate the quality and aesthetics of the architecture of that period.
