Porte du Rhin
This fortified gate, impressive in size and structure, once marked the main entrance to the city.
Framed by two imposing towers, it was closed by massive wooden doors reinforced with an iron portcullis. Above the entrance, a statue of Saint Thibaut watched over visitors, symbolizing the city's divine protection.
To strengthen its defense, wide and deep water-filled moats surrounded the ramparts, making access to the walls nearly impossible.
Demolished in 1827, the gate disappeared, but the statue of Saint Thibaut was moved to the fountain bearing his name, located near the current Tourist Office.
