Protestant Church - Church of the Récollets

The current Protestant church in Sélestat stands on the site of the choir of the former Franciscan convent church, founded in the 13th century. The Franciscan order settled in the town and built this choir in 1280, near the convent buildings. After a period of abandonment, the site was taken over by the Récollets, then secularized during the Revolution. It was only in 1878 that the municipal council authorized the emerging Protestant community to use it as their place of worship. Preparatory work included the demolition of the nave and major renovations before the official inauguration in 1881. Inside, the organ, built by Rinckenbach, and the stained glass windows, created after World War II, add a contemporary touch. These windows decorate the choir, featuring Moses and Christ at the center, flanked by the four evangelists on the sides.
