Protestant Church of Hoffen

Located in Leiterswiller, an associated commune of Hoffen in Outre-Forêt, this Protestant church stands out as the oldest in the region. Its half-timbered bell tower, a rare feature, immediately catches visitors' attention. The building, renamed Saint-André in the early 16th century, was formerly known as Saint-Aegide as early as 1189. Between 1693 and 1897, it hosted both Protestant and Catholic services under a simultaneum arrangement, before a dedicated Catholic church was built. Rebuilt in 1736, the church has bells installed in 2000 and a monumental cross dating from 1784. Protected as a historic monument since March 13, 1924, it is a major architectural and historical testimony of the region.
