Puits d'amour

On the Rangenberg wine trail in Dorlisheim, about twenty kilometers from Strasbourg, lies the Puits d’Amour. This enchanting spot, accessible from the vendangeoir bridge, features a natural spring flowing beneath a stone trellis and shaded by a few fruit trees. Surrounded by nature, this mythical site has been restored by the municipality: trees have been planted, dry stone walls and wide sandstone steps have been built to facilitate access and preserve the harmony of the place.

Its Alsatian name, Dattelbrunne (the Dattel well), does not correspond to its French translation. The exact origin of this name remains uncertain, but local legend says young lovers used to meet there, drawn by its romantic charm. In the past, winegrowers watered their horses there or drew water for their needs.

Another, more childlike belief held that the stork would fetch babies there to deliver them to houses where a sugar cube was placed on the windowsill.
