Raft by Anne Zimmermann
Located in Muespach-le-Haut, the gateway to the Sundgau near the Three Borders, this artwork titled 'Raft' by Anne Zimmermann consists of three beehives placed on a flat-bottomed boat.
This base evokes the traditional boats of the Sundgau ponds, symbolically floating above a cornfield.
The installation questions the relationship between intensive agriculture and biodiversity, particularly the impact of corn monoculture and pesticides on bees and pollinating insects.
These insects, essential for pollinating nearly 70% of our fruits and vegetables, are seeing their populations collapse.
The Raft, seemingly on the verge of sinking, thus becomes a call to environmental preservation.
The artist, supported by a local beekeeper, also offers to harvest the honey produced by the hives, providing a tangible experience of this ecological awareness.
The artwork is located at the crossroads of the D463 and D16.5, towards Knoeringue.
