Red Sea
This industrial site may derive its name from the former madder fields that once covered it.
It was established in 1806 with the founding of the Jean Hofer and Co. dye works, made possible by the nearby watercourse. The oldest buildings date back to the 1840s, as evidenced by "La Fabrique," a typical factory block of that era. This building was restored in 2005 to restore its full splendor. In the early 20th century, new red brick buildings were constructed, some of which, like "L’Epicerie," stand out for their imposing size.
Immediately adjacent to the site, two majestic chimneys rise like sentinels, symbols of the past industrial activity.
