Refuge du Hus

This authentic, staffed mountain refuge overlooks the Upper Thur Valley southwest of the Herrenberg Pass, in the commune of Kruth.

It mainly welcomes hikers, skiers, and nature lovers who wish to spend the night or simply rest while having a packed meal. Reservations are strongly recommended, but access is possible for occasional shelter depending on the availability of the volunteer caretaker on site.

The refuge is open every weekend, during certain school holiday periods, and daily from July 14 to August 15. Other dates may be considered upon prior request, subject to availability. It is ideal for exploring the wild flora and fauna of the High Vosges, stargazing, or hiking on foot, snowshoes, or skis. It is not available for full rental or festive events. Groups are limited to a maximum of 10 people and must book in advance. Pets are not allowed.

On site, you will find everything needed to prepare your meals, as the association does not provide food or drinks. For overnight stays, bring your own sheet or sleeping bag and a flashlight. Nearby, three mountain farms are open five to six months a year: Auberge HUSS, Ferme-Auberge du SCHAFERT, and Ferme-Auberge du STEINWASEN.

Access is on foot from Metzeral station (3 hours walk) or Kruth station (2 hours), following Club Vosgien trails, outside snowy periods. In winter, the route from Kruth is preferred. By car, access via a forest road from Herrenberg Pass is only possible outside the winter closures of the Route des Crêtes.
