Renaissance House

Leaving Butchers' Street, you discover on the left an elegant late Renaissance house, recognizable by its projecting bay window.

An inscription in German adorns its facade: "O world, O world, how bitter is your money. Whoever seeks little in this world will be rewarded in eternity."

The old coats of arms, once visible on the facade, were hammered out during the French Revolution.

A carved date, 1663, marks the year it was built by the merchant Jean Sohn and his wife Marie-Madeleine Klopp.

This building stands on the edge of the hill that once bordered the old medieval site of Rouffach.
