Rhine Hunting and Wildlife Reserve

The Rhine Hunting and Wildlife Reserve (RCFS) spans the two departments of Alsace. Its Lower Rhine section, covering 4,135 hectares, is managed by the National Office for Hunting and Wildlife.

This site plays an international role by hosting migratory water birds, thanks to its strategic position between the Mediterranean and the Scandinavian or Siberian regions. The Rhine forms a migratory corridor and an essential wintering area here, gathering several tens of thousands of individuals each year.

To ensure their peace, hunting is strictly prohibited.

This ecological importance was recognized in September 2008, when the Upper Rhine was designated as a Franco-German Ramsar site, highlighting its exceptional heritage qualities on a global level.
