Ried Cathedral - Neo-Gothic Church of Saint Stephen
To accommodate the growing population, the municipality decided in 1849 to replace the old parish church with a new building located in the heart of the village.
Construction only began in 1864, after the laying of the first stone, on the site of a farm that was moved a little further away. The neo-Gothic church, designed by architect Ringeisen, was built between 1864 and 1866.
It is distinguished by a slender front bell tower, a vaulted nave flanked by side aisles, and a polygonal choir. Its remarkable proportions earned it the evocative nickname "Cathedral of the Ried."
Inside, the frescoes and paintings, restored in 2009, reflect its rich artistic heritage. A glazed installation allows visitors to admire the interior and its decorations, accessible from Monday to Sunday from Easter to mid-September.
