Riquewihr
A gem of the Alsace vineyard, Riquewihr is a must-visit medieval town, ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Its origins date back to the wine estate of Richo, "Richo villare," which gave rise to the town. Surrounded by grand cru vineyards such as Schoenenbourg and Sporen, it preserves an exceptional architectural heritage with its half-timbered houses tightly packed together, dating from the 13th to the 18th century, along its lively main street. The perfectly preserved ramparts encircle this jewel, where every building tells a story: the gourmet's house, the winemaker's house, the Schickhardt house, the castle of the Counts of Württemberg, and the Dolder, a 25-meter iconic tower built in 1291, offering a unique panorama of the town. The vineyard, cultivated since the 8th century, has shaped Riquewihr, whose oldest barrel in the world bears witness to this centuries-old tradition. In summer, the town blooms with a profusion of flowers, while at Christmas, it dresses in its finest colors to celebrate Advent in a warm atmosphere, blending festive magic and Alsatian traditions.
