Ritzenthal Refuge
Perched on the edge of the forest above Wintzfelden, this refuge is a two-hour walk from the summit of Petit Ballon, in the Munster valley. It offers 21 beds in dormitories: one 4-bed area, one 13-bed room, and another 4-bed room separated. A shared kitchen is available with two cooking stations, two sinks, an electric oven, a gas oven, and a microwave. Two lounges, one with 20 seats and another with 50, complement the common areas, along with a bar equipped with two refrigerators. Outside, there is a terrace, private parking, and a bike garage. Facilities include two toilets, one shower, eight sinks, and an accessible installation with a dedicated toilet and shower for people with reduced mobility. Camping is also possible on site, with three showers reserved for campers. Reception is open year-round but limited to weekends: Saturdays from 3 pm to 5 pm for hikers, and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm. On public holidays, reception is by reservation. On weekdays, Monday to Friday, reception is possible only by reservation and for groups of at least 15 people with packed meals. Sheets or sleeping bags are mandatory. Holiday vouchers are accepted. Rates are €9 per night for adults, €6 for children under 12, and free for children under 3. Camping costs €5 per night. To get there, cross Wintzfelden towards Osenbach, then take the last communal street, rue de la Chapelle, before following the car-accessible Ritzenthal path.
