Rodolphe Monument - Monumental Fountain
The Rodolphe Fountain, monumental and made of gray sandstone, is distinguished by its octagonal basin. At the center, a pillar is surrounded by three rounded basins supported by pilasters. Commissioned and donated by Émile Sautier, a prominent local industrialist, it pays tribute to Rudolf I of Habsburg, whose reign (1273-1291) deeply marked Ensisheim. Erected in 1900 by sculptor Bisch, this work embodies both the martial and civic aspects of the Habsburg dynasty. The front face features the effigy of Rudolf I, accompanied by his arms symbolized by a lion. Two other faces display the coats of arms of the city and the Landgraviate of Upper Alsace. The corners are adorned with knightly helmets, and the whole is topped by the imperial crown.
Listed in the general inventory of heritage, this fountain is a major historical and artistic testimony.
